A Devil's Gospel from Nephi?
Does the Book of Mormon speak of another gospel? Did Nephi include the devil's gospel in his writing? How did Lucifer seek to save himself? Will he be successful?
In 2 Nephi 24:12-14, we read, "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! Art thou cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thy heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit."
In this passage Lucifer is very focused on himself. He uses "I" five times - I will ascend, I will exalt, I will sit and I will be. His goal is to be "like" God. He is seeking his own glory rather that the glory of God. Nephi prophesies that he will be brought down to hell in spite of his efforts to "ascend above the heights of the clouds".
The ascending/becoming like God idea was also in the garden of Eden. The serpent convinced Eve to eat of the forbidden fruit. He said, "...in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." (Genesis 3:5) Is this Satan's gospel - ascending higher and higher to become like God? Did Nephi lay out the Devil's gospel? Is this Lucifer's plan of salvation to the highest heaven?
Isaiah 42:8 says, "I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images."
Isaiah 44:6 says, "...I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God".
Isaiah 44:8 says, "...Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any."
Luke 14:11 says, "For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased;..."
